DOI: 10.1177/14690446040050040301 Re-emerging infections Part 1: TuberculosisDepartment of Primary Health Care, Oxford University, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford OX3 7LF n this series of articles on re-emerging infections, we shall be considering infectious diseases that declined in the UK in the past, but which are now an increasing risk for people living here. Any increase of an infectious disease can cause public fear out of proportion to the actual numbers of cases and deaths. This is partly due to a fear of the unfamiliar, but also by the threat of an infection spreading out of control.
