Lister Unit, Northwick Park and St Marks NHS Trust, Harrow, Middlesex In November 2001 an infectious diseases clinical nurse specialist (ID CNS) post was created within the infectious diseases unit (Lister unit) at Northwick Park and St Marks NHS Trusts in Harrow, Middlesex. We believe this to be the first of its kind. The purpose of this post was to provide:
A year later, after evaluation demonstrated it to be a success, this temporary post was made permanent. This article outlines how this new role has evolved and how the ID CNS has impacted on the quality of patient care and staff development.
